Non-oriented silicon steel: A silicon-iron alloy with very low carbon content. In the deformed and annealed steel sheet, its grains exhibit an irregular orientation distribution. The silicon content of the alloy is 1.5%–3.0%, or the combined silicon and aluminum content is 1.8%–4.0%. The product is typically cold-rolled sheet or strip with nominal thicknesses of 0.35 and 0.5 mm, mainly used in the manufacture of electric motors and generators.

Non-Oriented Silicon Steel Coils Description
A. Silicon steel sheets can be divided into low-silicon and high-silicon types according to their silicon content. Low-silicon sheets contain less than 2.8% silicon and have a certain mechanical strength. They are mainly used in the manufacture of motors and are commonly known as motor silicon steel sheets. High-silicon sheets contain 2.8%-4.8% silicon and have good magnetic properties but are more brittle. They are mainly used in the manufacture of transformer cores and are commonly known as transformer silicon steel sheets. There is no strict boundary between the two in practical applications; high-silicon sheets are commonly used to manufacture large motors.
B. According to the manufacturing process, silicon steel sheets can be divided into hot-rolled and cold-rolled types. Cold-rolled sheets can be further divided into non-oriented and grain-oriented types. Cold-rolled sheets have uniform thickness, good surface quality, and higher magnetic properties.
Scope of Application
In terms of applications, non-oriented silicon steel is mainly used in rotating electrical machines, such as motors in household appliances, industrial motors, and drive motors in new energy vehicles. Due to its isotropic nature, non-oriented silicon steel exhibits stability in alternating magnetic fields, making it suitable for manufacturing high-speed rotating motor cores. In contrast, oriented silicon steel is mainly used in transformers because it has excellent magnetic properties in one direction but poor performance in other directions.
